Learning to play a guitar can be frustrating. If you do not have a lesson structure laid out to follow you will go round and round in circles and achieve nothing. The key is to follow the most direct route and have as much fun as possible in the process. How do I learn to play the guitar the correct way so that I do not end up throwing in the towel?
Before you start each lesson, clear your mind completely and remember that your objective is to master one lesson at a time. Focus on performing each lesson correctly. Once you have mastered the lesson, reward yourself by trying to learn a new song or just spend some time exploring the guitar. Balance in your guitar playing will be a deciding factor in your ultimate success.
How long will it take for me to learn how to play a guitar?
It is difficult to determine how long it will take to learn how to play a guitar, but if you successfully complete each of your lessons before attempting a new lesson and practice the scales and chords that you are learning as well as try to incorporate them into your playing, you will develop a good ear for music and your creativeness will start to show itself through your music. It does not matter how quickly you can master your lessons, it is what you can do with that knowledge that will determine your ability as a guitarist.
Every time I play the guitar I play the same tune and it is driving me crazy!
There are often times where you come up with a catchy little tune, but do not seem to develop it into anything. The problem comes in when you start to play the tune every time you pick up the guitar to the point where you get so frustrated that you want to smash your guitar on the floor. A handy little routine that works for me is to run through my guitar exercises, scales, chords or whatever I have scheduled for the day, then choose an easy song that I can learn fairly quickly and spend the rest of my available time mastering the song.
The beauty is that you stop the bad habit that is making you frustrated and rebuild your confidence because you start to feel that you are now accomplishing your guitar playing goals again. The key to successful guitar playing is to be patient, persistent and have as much fun and enjoyment as possible.
